WHAT’S YOUR READY POSITION?
READY POSITION. What’s yours?
In table tennis, receiving serve is critical – it’s the beginning of virtually every rally. Ready position means you’re balanced, knees bent, paddle in neutral position, ready to receive either a backhand or forehand serve, long or short, fast or slow. And you adapt your stance based on your own strengths and objectives.
The beauty of ready position is that you don’t need to predict the future in order to respond to it with balance, agility, and power!
In your career, it’s essentially the same thing.
There are so many ways to stay ready. For what? OPPORTUNITY. When the right opportunity approaches – if you’re READY – all you have to do… is swing. No lunging beyond your reach, no tripping over an untied shoelace.
And that’s the essence of Pong Principle #6: What’s Your Ready Position?
What is READY, for you? Learning AI tools for design, drafting, or coding? (Re)establishing relationships in your industry, at all levels? Upping your physical fitness to support demanding mental workloads? Taking a refresher or intro course in a growing field adjacent to yours? Revisiting a beloved hobby that may actually translate to career enhancement, now or later?
Some readiness reflections for you:
- What activity are you drawn to that you might discount but that could potentially serve you well now or down the road?
- Regardless of the path you think you are on or preparing yourself for, what path are you already prepared for?
- If you’re not satisfied with your current options, what are you doing to get ready for your desired path?
